CAFRA works within the framework of the Beijing Platform for Action, aligning its programmes with the twelve critical areas of concern. The socio-economic context clearly pointed to the need to:
(a) Focus on women’s empowerment
(b) Challenge the macro-economic structures
(c) Broaden the support base locally and internationally
The biggest threat to the organisation is financial instability, due to an overall recession, and changing policies of donor agencies.
The challenge to balance commitments made at United Nations Conference, has however, secured NGOs a place as partners in development and for there to be gender equality in all spheres of life.
CAFRA is well placed to take up its position as a partner in development on behalf of the region’s women.
