Members continued to benefit from local, regional and international seminars and workshops including participation in: (a) The World Social Forum, in Porto Alegre, Brazil with the central theme of globalization and trade issues. (b) The Assembly of Caribbean Peoples, Haiti in which there was a Women’s Forum. This forum dealt with political activism, feminism, and the Women’s Movement as a Social Movement. (c) Conference on in Politics, Guyana where CAFRA Representative presented a Paper, Ninth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD), Guyana. The meeting addressed labour issues, technical and vocational education and training, crime and security, Health and Development and priorities for culture and development. (d) The PRAXIS programme of the International NGO Training and Research Center (INTRAC). This programme promotes new research that will encourage innovative practice. (e) The Center for Gender Studies and the Hugh Wooding Law School organized a regional conference on Gender and the Law. The outputs of the Conference include a training manual which will be used in our work. (f) CAFRA participated in a Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Agriculture sponsored by ECLAC, UNIFEM and FAO. The main purpose of the workshop was to introduce a training tool for use by Agriculture Planners, Women’s Bureaus and Women’s NGOs (g) The International Labour Organization (ILO) has produced a Reader’s List on Gender, Poverty and Employment. This training package is deigned to raise awareness and to educate key policy makers on the intersection of poverty reduction, employment promotion and gender issues. The programme will promote strategic and targeted responses to poverty, taking into account differential impacts of poverty reduction and employment promotion measure for men and women.
INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
(a) PURCHASE OF BUILDING
During the year, the Ministry of Gender Affairs donated TT$40,000, sufficient to cover the legal fees for completion
