Women in Development Europe (WIDE)

With funds accessed through the European Commission, Women in Development Europe (WIDE) CAFRA conducted a Workshop on Advocacy and Lobbying Skills Training, as part of follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women.

The project objectives were to build the human resource capability within the women’s movement, implement the Beijing Platform for Action.

Activities carried out:
(a) Training Course in lobbying techniques, analysis of progress on implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action

(b) Production of Articles on issues affecting women, for the print and electronic media

(c) Training membership in computer technology. A total of forty-four (44) persons received training. Fourteen of this number were young women.

As a follow-up, CAFRA proposes to conduct research on the progress made in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action, to participate fully in the Subregional Review Meetings, the Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean to be held in February 2000, the Beijing+5 PrepCom in March, and Special Session, Women 2000 in June.

WIDE held its Annual Conference in Holland in the second quarter 1999 and focused on linking ICPP, Beijing and Copenhagen, and addressed the future of EU/ACP Development Cooperation. The Conference paid particular attention to the negotiations on the sale of Windward Islands bananas.
