An Instructor at Dominica’s Police Training School since 1993, Yvonne participated in the first-ever Tribunal on Violence against Women, held in the English-speaking Caribbean, Barbados in November 1998. She advocates on domestic violence issues on radio and television panel discussions.

She is particularly interested in the use of interactive and participatory methodologies in community work and training.

She trains police officers in anger management and behaviour modification in domest violence situations.

A Social Worker/Human Resource Officer in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Ursuline has previously trained police officers in anger management and behaviour modificaiton in domestic violence situations. She has also received specialised training in domestic violence counselling, sexual and reproductive health counselling and mediation and conflict resolution.

Vidia Kissoon started off as a Volunteer Counsellor with Help and Shelter Inc. in 1995 and is now Vice-Chairperson of the organisation, responsible for co-ordinating the Public Education Programme on domestic violence and child abuse. He has previously trained Help and Shelter’s volunteers and police officers on aspects of domestic violence intervention.

As a Development Worker, Folade Mutota has mobilised communities throughout Trinidad for the purposes of lobbying and advocacy around issues of women’s rights, sexual abuse and participatory democracy. Her training experience has been in the subject areas of gender issues, small business management, leadership, effective communications, team building and strategic planning.

Maggie Schmeitz is a Gender Consultant who has worked with several women’s organisations in Suriname. A CAFRA member, she was a trainer in the pioneer training Programme for police officers and social workers in Suriname, in 1998.
