The National Committees are the veins and arteries, and meat and bones of the Association. They have in different ways and in different levels kept the fires burining in their respective countries, and initiated or replicated important projects, some of which are featured here.


BARBADOS


  • A women in Politics Roundtable to reflect on how women in politics can be catalysts for transforming the politics, economics and sociology of Caribbean societies.
  • Promoting Literacy thorugh a Children’s Reading Club


BELIZE


  • A Study on Domestic Violence in the Belize District
  • A Public Forum on Older Persons in recognition of the International Year of the Elderly


CUBA


  • Research on the incidence of HIV/AIDS
  • Research on Teenage Pregnancy


CURACAO


  • Course on Women and Political Decision making in Curacao
  • Exhibition on the work of Women Artists


DOMINICA REPUBLIC


  • Research on the Impact of Trade Agreements on Women
  • Project for the supply of school uniforms and books to children in the Carib Territory


GUYANA


  • Production of publication of a Reader for Women’s Studies
  • Hosting a Conference on the Theme "Exploring the impact of Trade Liberalization on Women"


JAMAICA


  • Skills Training for economic development, parenting, domestic violence intervention and lobbying of government and other policy makers
  • Hosting the training of 100 trainer for Domestic Violence Intervention/Prevention Project


PUERTO RICO


  • A training programme for fifteen (15) young mothers in production and sale of medical plants.
  • A Legal Training School for women to provide them with the skills to analyze and reflect on the traditional legal system.


ST. CROIX





  • Activism on HIV/AIDS Prevention/Intervention
  • Research on the Status of Women in the Virgin Islands in the area of Political involvement, HIV/AIDS and mental helath


ST. LUCIA


  • Research on the Impact of New Trade Agreements on Women
  • Forum on HIV/AIDS Prevention/Intervention


ST. VINCENT


  • Workshop to discuss continuing education for girls whose primary and secondary education was interrupted due to pregnancy.
  • Training for crop diversification to reduce dependency on bananas


SURINAME


  • Seminar on Building a Culture of Human Rights
  • Training of Police in Domestic Violence Intervention/Prevention Strategies


TRINIDAD & TOBAGO


  • Young Women’s Leadership Project and Production of a book on their own mentors
  • Exchange project with Canada

In addition, all National Committees are engaged in actions against violence against women, which emerged as the most challenging issue for the regional during the preparation of the NGO Alternative Report on implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action. The Domestic Violence Intervention/Prevention Training Programme for Police and Social Workers is a direct response to this issue.
