This January-June 2004 issue of CAFRA News is dedicated to the memory of Nartel Green, the CAFRA National Representative of legacy of connectedness. Nartel exemplified the role of a National Representative and a National Committee, initiating and implementing activities in keeping with CAFRA’s mission, and dissemating and implementing as requested by the Secretariat. The eloquent tributes speak to the esteem in which we held this Sister who walked tall, yet with fingers in the soil and ears to the ground. With her boots on, she did not say goodbye.CAFRA is particularly indebted to Nartel for her lead work on HIV/AIDS Intervention/Prevention. We shall carry forward this legacy with the enthusiastic help of the very skilled Maria Govan of CAFRA Bahamas who has produced a CAFRA video on HIV/AIDS prevalence and interventions.
In terms of assets, CAFRA is the proud owner of the Building it occupies. A specific plan has to be put in place to use the space for income-generating. There is a real need to fund raise to meet the shortfall of funds on the cost of the building and the renovation. Let us contribute our ideas towards this goal as a tribute to Nartel, who through CAFRA St. Croix, raised the largest donations from individuals.
Finally, CAFRA’s attempts to face the challenge of understanding the differences in age, class, culture, disability, race, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation among the women it seeks to represent, Nartel Green’s approach and commitment left us with evidence of success.
