International Women’s Day was celebrated in Jamaica with a workshop on “Gender Relations Among Youth Towards the Year 2000.” Gender Consultant Carol Narcisse facilitated the workshop, which was organized by The Jamaica Association of Youth Organizations.
The 77 participants were taken through a series of exercises on gender roles. At the end of the session, they wanted a reduction in crime, violence and poverty.
The plan of action is to have similar sessions with the National Secondary School Council to sensitize them about gender relations so that it can become part of their in-school program.
