“Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health” was the theme of a one-hour television panel discussion held on May 27, on NBTV, to mark International Day for Women’s Health (May 28)
The panelists were Frederick Cox, Executive Director, Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GRPA) and Andrea Rahlehr, Administrator of the Guyana Cancer Society with Patricia Hackett, CAFRA Guyana National Representative as moderator.
The intention was to sensitize adolescent boys and girls as well as men and women about their reproductive health, to clear up myths and to offer the public an opportunity to air their views on the issue.
The discussion revealed that there was an increase in teenage pregnancy in 1997 and 1998 and that Guyana would soon have facilities for the treatment of cervical cancer.
On May 29, GRPA and CAFRA teamed up for a forum at he Olga Byrne Youth Centre/School on the same topic. The guest speaker was Sheila Yaw-Fraser, a nurse attached to GRPA.
