December 2005
Since 1994 when I became a CAFRA member it was clear to me that CAFRA has something special to offer. This network involves women/feminists at all levels, culture and thoughts.
Though CAFRA was not well known by all people in Suriname, by its works it became a very important organization. Members who are aware of the power CAFRA obtains, set up local networking groups. Networking gives us the opportunity to make a greater impact on women’s issues and women can be more involved at all levels. CAFRA is invited to regional and international meetings; women have a voice in the region.
Thanks to CAFRA that the issue of violence against women as a crime is widely promoted; that governments are aware of necessity of the involvement of women in policy and development and women are aware of their position. We have to eliminate discrimination on the basis of race from our organization. CAFRA has to move on as an organization that is open for women, their voices and perspectives.
In this issue of CAFRA News, many perspectives are advanced on CAFRA’s 20th Anniversary, the status of the women’s movement, youth in focus and urgent calls to renewed activism. Let us move on like a unique organization where women embrace each other as sisters, and as an organization in a common fight for justice and gender equality.
Congratulations to CAFRA for its 20th anniversary. May God give strength in our fight against negative spirits in our organization and renew us with passion, love and courage for a better tomorrow.
