2005
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8. CAFRA observed the day within the context of natural disasters, and the global processes impacting negatively on the region. The theme chosen was “Community Action for Gender Equality”
The message for the day stated that although platforms for action such as the Beijing, Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) promoted a better life for the region’s people, the reality was under-development for many sectors of the population.
Poverty is becoming increasingly feminised as women are the most vulnerable to the economic squeeze.
The International Day Against Violence Against Women was observed on November 25th and highlighted violence in general, institutional, psychological violence and domestic violence in all its forms.
